Fans Welcome UD Basketball Players Home

The University of Dayton men's and women's basketball teams were honored Sunday evening with a public celebration at UD Arena. Hundreds of fans packed the east side of the arena to congratulate the players and coaches for having a season that garnered national attention.

Fans came to cheer members of the 11th-seeded UD men's squad that made an improbable run in this year's NCAA tournament.

After defeating Ohio State, Syracuse and Stanford, the Flyers went all the way to the Elite Eight before falling 62-52 to the tournament's top-seeded Florida Gators, who haven't lost a game since early December of last year and have now won 30 games in a row.

Dayton had four seniors on the team: Devin Oliver, Vee Sanford, Matt Kavanaugh and Brian Vonderhaar.

Head coach Archie Miller thanked the fans and community for their support. He said he was proud of his players and feels fortunate to be part of a program that excels on and off the court.

The No. 6 seeded University of Dayton women's basketball team coached by Jim Jabir, lost to 11th-seeded Florida in the first round of the NCAA tournament, 83-69.

Cassie Sant was the lone senior for UD this season.  The women have made the tournament five years in a row, but have yet to get past the second round.
