A Mason City Council member explained her stance on the Warren County city's marijuana business ban.

In 2018, the Mason City Council passed an ordinance that banned growing, processing or selling medical marijuana within city limits. Now that recreational marijuana has been approved by the state, Mason’s ordinance needs an update.

Over a hundred people protested in front of the Mason Municipal Center Monday night before and during the council meeting, holding signs for their side of the abortion issue. Amidst the divided crowd, Mason City Council voted 4-3 in support of the ban.

This year, two different city councils in Warren County have debated local ordinances that would make their towns so-called “sanctuary cities for the unborn.”
