Democrats Prevail in Montgomery County Local Races

Columbia City Blog

Democrats will keep their hold on the Montgomery County Commission as Carolyn Rice bested Republican Challenger Doug Barry. Rice won with 53% of the vote. Democrats have controlled the county commission for more than a dozen years.

Democrats also prevailed in other Montgomery County races. In the county recorder’s race, incumbent candidate Brandon McClain beat Republican candidate Adil Baguirov by 10 points. And in the race for Montgomery County auditor, Democrat Karl Keith won 58% of the vote against Republican challenger Harry Bossey.

Republicans did flip one position in the county government. Republican Mike Foley will serve as the new Montgomery County Clerk of Courts. Foley won a narrow margin over incumbent Democrat Russ Joseph. Roughly 400 votes separated the two candidates.
