Truth Garrett is a dynamic poet, multidisciplinary artist, and dedicated reporter for the Yellow Springs Newspaper. Hailing from Indianapolis, Truth's journey has been one of relentless creativity and self-expression. Influenced by the vibrant tapestry of hip-hop culture and inspired by his brother's legacy as an actor in the 70s and 80s, Truth delved into acting, rap, and poetry from a tender age.

Venturing to Ohio in the early 90s, Truth pursued studies in radio and television at Central State University, where his passion for storytelling blossomed. During his time there, he crafted the documentary "Quest for Freedom," a poignant exploration that earned recognition with a submission for a student Emmy. Under the mentorship of the esteemed Johnny Wilder, Jr., founder of HeatWave, Truth honed his skills in sound engineering, laying the foundation for his multifaceted career.

In 2015, Truth earned an associate degree in Marketing and Management from Harrison College in Indianapolis before returning to Ohio to pursue his bachelor's degree at Antioch College. Here, he pioneered a groundbreaking curriculum in Hip-Hop Education, leveraging his profound understanding of music and the arts. His innovative approach garnered acclaim, securing numerous grants, including the prestigious Antioch Vitories for Humanities Grant.

As an Antioch College student, Truth embarked on a compelling oral history project, chronicling the legacy of the African American Studies Institute, a trailblazing institution within the campus. This initiative sheds light on a pivotal moment in history, serving as a testament to Truth's commitment to preserving and celebrating African American culture.

An independent producer for WYSO's Community Voices program, Truth crafted engaging episodes like "Loud As The Rolling Sea," showcasing his prowess in storytelling. Currently, he serves as a facilitator for WYSO's Dayton Youth Radio, empowering the next generation of voices to share their stories.
