Juneteeth

A group of women are stirring up public interest in the underground railroad — one step at a time. On June 19th, they’ll be in Yellow Springs, where WYSO’s Kathryn Mobley says you can join them as they trek along a freedom path in our area.

A virtual discussion hosted by Sinclair Community College gave a platform for scholar Eddie Glaude Jr. to speak about Juneteenth becoming a federally recognized holiday.

Events will be happening in Yellow Springs, Cincinnati, Springboro, Troy, and multiple locations in Dayton.

This Saturday Dayton and many communities across the Miami Valley will hold Juneteenth celebrations that mark the end of slavery in the United States. Eichelberger Center for Community Voices Senior Producer Basim Blunt interviewed local historian Larry Crowe to get some details about Juneteenth.

The Village of Yellow Springs has passed a resolution declaring Juneteenth a holiday.
