Environmental groups are calling for the repeal of House Bill 6 after Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder was arrested on Tuesday.
Larry Householder allegedly strong-armed House Bill 6 through the General Assembly with the help of corporate bribes. Then, authorities say the Ohio Speaker used more illicit funds to help kill a referendum effort. A broad mix of interest groups advocated against House Bill 6, including environmental groups, free market think tanks, and natural gas companies.
Now, some people are calling for House Bill 6 to be repealed. Trish Demeter, Chief of Staff of the Ohio Environmental Council Action Fund says: “House Bill 6 is a really bad piece of legislation because it will increase Ohioans’ electric bills and also make our air much dirtier. That's really, in a nutshell, what the bill does.”
Two Ohio lawmakers have said they will introduce legislation that would fully repeal House Bill 6. Numerous politicians and interest groups have also called for Householder’s resignation.
