Funk Music Hall of Fame Now Open in Dayton

April Laissle

Music fans are celebrating the official opening of the Funk Music Hall of Fame in downtown Dayton. The highly anticipated museum celebrates funk music and its legacy in the city.

Plans for the Funk Music Hall of Fame have been in the making for about two years. The city officially gave curator David Webb the green light to open on Third Street late last year.

Webb, along with his team of administrative staff, has been collecting funk music artifacts for years. The Hall of Fame features items donated by many well-known artists, including the Ohio Players, Heatwave, Sun, and Lakeside.

Webb says he doesn’t have a favorite exhibit.

“Everything is a favorite. I was just amazed by how many people wanted to donate stuff - they wanted to make this happen," said Webb. "That has been the biggest wow for me.”

The museum is now open by appointment only. Tours can be scheduled by phone. A grand opening ceremony is expected in the coming weeks.
