Just in case you missed the news, On Wednesday  in Dayton, Antioch College officials announced a deal allowing WYSO to become independent. To learn more about what’s behind today’s announcement and how it could affect WYSO, Managing Editor Jess Mador spoke with Station Manager Neenah Ellis, who says WYSO –– with Antioch College –– has so far raised almost $3.5 million. The funds will reimburse Antioch for its investment in the station’s broadcast license and operations.

 

Later today millions of Americans will gather to watch the big game. On this Super Bowl Sunday, we have a Dayton Youth Radio story about football - from a teenage athlete’s perspective. Centerville High School student Josh Zientko* talks to his friend Drew Schimmel about life on the field.

 

You could consider today’s temperatures a bit of a heatwave compared to the sub-zero temps we’ve experienced recently. But, concerned by how the harsh winter weather is affecting the city’s homeless population  - two Dayton men have organized a winter clothing drive. Tushar Goswami and Corgi Dixon spent the better part of a very cold Wednesday contacting downtown establishments to gather support for the drive. Several local business who have agreed to serve as drop-off locations.

Gov. Mike DeWine has been traveling the state on a listening tour with community leaders working on the front lines in the battle against opioids. The newly minted governor is developing plans to fight opioid abuse. Last week he was in Dayton, and this week, he met with leaders in Columbus. Statehouse correspondent Jo Ingles reports.
