The Schuster Center, Victoria Theatre and other Dayton venues will be lit up in red tonight as part of a nationwide event called Red Alert RESTART.

Entertainment and music venues across the city will be bathed in red light tonight, starting at 9PM, for an event called Red Alert RESTART.

It's part of a nationwide movement to raise awareness for the performing arts.

Dayton Live President and CEO Ty Sutton says live venues have been trying to get legislators’ attention.

"Our event industry is in trouble and needs help—needs assistance," Sutton says. "In the state of Ohio right now, we have the highest level of unemployment of any single industry. It’s 47%."

Dayton Live notes that the local losses are big—and getting bigger.

Hundreds of shows have been cancelled, thousands of jobs lost, and millions of dollars taken from the Miami Valley economy since the pandemic started.

But Sutton says there is legislation that could help save event venues. There’s the Save Our Stages Bill, and the Restart Act.
