A severe storm front moving through the Miami Valley produced at least one confirmed tornado touchdown in Cedarville. Several buildings were demolished and as many as four people had to be extricated from the basement of a home near Barber and Weimer Roads.
Rosanne Anders of the Greene County Emergency Management Agency says EMS personnel responded to the scene and that there were "minor injuries that required no transportation to the hospital."
Anders reported that Cedarville law enforcement will spend Wednesday night "doing damage assessment," and the National Weather Service will be on the scene Thursday morning to assess the storm's strength.
Eyewitness accounts say the tornado touched down once for about 40 seconds, pulled back up then came down a second time, where it spent five to six minutes on the ground.
Cedarville University's Public Relations Director, Mark Weinstein, says no injuries or damage were reported on campus. Most students were out on Summer break. Only one dorm on campus had students, who moved to safety as soon as the county alert system was activated.
Lisa D’Allessandris, the director of the Clark County Emergency Management Agency, assessed the storm's effect on the county. D’Allessandris said there were "three sightings; in Madison, Harmony, and Pleasant Township." The director believes there was "one actual touchdown in Madison, in the South Charleston area... [with] no structural damage or injuries."
