Wilberforce University is canceling its recent graduates’ student debt. University president Elfred Anthony Pinkard gave the good news to the Class of 2020 and 2021 during their commencement ceremony last weekend.

“Your accounts have been cleared,” Pinkard said.

Jocelyn Fox is a 2021 Wilberforce graduate. She says she had nearly $70,000 in student debt.

“I had a lot of debt and I was really getting worried about, ‘What was I going to do after school?’" Fox said. "And he said that and my heart just lit up, everyone stood up. I really wasn’t expecting it.”

Fox is now considering a masters degree once she finds a job that can help her pay her way.
