Threads of History: Quilts by Carolyn Mazloomi is a landmark solo exhibition by award-winning artist, historian, and curator Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi. Now an octogenarian, Mazloomi remains one of the most visionary leaders in contemporary quilting, widely recognized for her lifelong efforts to elevate African American quilt traditions. Her striking black-and-white quilts memorialize the lives and legacies of African American freedom fighters, capturing resilience, resistance, and remembrance through bold imagery and layered narrative.

Originally trained as an aerospace engineer, Mazloomi shifted her focus in the 1980s to advocate for African American quilt artists whose contributions had long been marginalized. Through her scholarship, mentorship, and the founding of the Women of Color Quilters Network, she has transformed the cultural landscape, bringing international recognition to quilting as both fine art and historical record. Her extraordinary impact has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Bess Lomax Hawes NEA National Heritage Fellowship, a United States Artists Fellowship, and an American Craft Council Honorary Fellowship. Her work is held in major collections, including the Smithsonian Institution and the American Folk Art Museum.

Rosewood Arts Center invites artists working in any media to submit proposals for exhibition in The Kettering Health Art Gallery during the 2027 Exhibition Season (January - December). Proposals must be submitted via Call for Entry by August 27th, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

The Kettering Health Art Gallery specializes in the exhibition of contemporary art by emerging local, regional and national artists. It is dedicated to the encouragement and creation of new works and to the promotion of the visual arts in the Dayton, Ohio area. Six to eight solo exhibitions are presented each year with support from the City of Kettering Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts and the Ohio Arts Council.

The City of Kettering insures all works while on exhibition (please refer to our policy) and covers printing and distribution costs of an announcement mailer for each exhibition. An honorarium of $300 is provided to artists selected for exhibition. The Kettering Health Art Gallery at Rosewood Arts Center does not provide equipment for multimedia installations. The gallery walls are constructed of drywall over plywood and cannot be altered other than by use of standard hanging hardware. Various pedestals are available for exhibitions. Cats for All features artwork created by Rosewood Students, Faculty, Staff, and Renters that display the wonders of our feline friends in various mediums and styles. This exhibit will run from June 11 through August 29, and is free and open to the public Mondays through Thursdays, 9 AM to 9 PM, Fridays 9 AM to 5 PM, and Saturdays 10 AM to 3 PM.

HWD (Height, Width, Depth) is an annual, juried exhibition of three-dimensional work, featuring sculptors in any medium from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and West Virginia. Artist awards totaling $1,100 will be selected by the juror. The exhibition will be on display in the Kettering Health Art Gallery at Rosewood Arts Center from August 3 to September 12. A closing reception will be held on Saturday, September 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. Featured artists include: Cynthia Bornhorst Winslow, Matthew Burgy, Bob Coates, Dylan Collins, Mark Fox-Morgan, Christine Gaffney, Jon Barlow Hudson, David Kenworthy, Lauryn King, John Kinnee, Dakota R., Andi F., Jason Lee, William Moore, Matthew Schellenberg, Lou Shamblin, Cade Tabit, Angela Webb, Jamie Weinfurter and Summer Zickefoose.
