Cincinnati's own Lydia Shae stopped by the WYSO studios with her band to perform live on Kaleidoscope and speak with host Juliet Fromholt about her new EP Décollage.
Shae's background in folk music shines through with her bright, clean vocals. With the help of her band she's able to present her songs in a more rock n roll palette.
"I have a very folk, bluegrass background, so that's kind of where the song comes up. Like the music and the lyrics in their most stripped down form." said Shae. "Then I bring it to the guys and they take it to a different place genre wise, but also just by imagining parts that I would never even think of. I feel like it really pulls the uniqueness out of the songs and moves it into a different place from where the song started."
As any band continues to practice and perform together they grow from disparate musicians into a creative hive mind. This flow state is where Shae says the band found themselves for the new EP.
"In Décollage I feel like it is really a fusion of- we understand each other, we know how each other play, and we're really drawing on the strengths of all of us individuals as musicians."
