One of the most peculiar interviews I have ever experienced during my years hosting the program took place about 20 years ago. In those days the program aired live from our studios every weekday afternoon and the majority of my guests came out to the station to be interviewed.
I had been contacted by a fellow named Andrew Jones. He called himself "The Flying Wine Man." I had no idea what he meant by that appellation but I was about to find out.
Andrew arrived that afternoon with a sidekick, a gentleman he identified as being from the BBC and apparently this gentleman had been knighted by the Queen! When they arrived they began plucking bottles of wine from their luggage and popping corks and pouring out goblets of wine right there in the studio.
I was taken by surprise by this unexpected turn of the corkscrew. I didn't know what to do? Should I play the conservative, forbearing host and demand an explanation? Or should I go with the flow and listen to the exquisite sound of those delicious beverages splashing tantalizingly near the microphone? I chose the path of least resistance; I sat back and enjoyed a wine tasting live on the radio.
