University of Dayton Women's Basketball Coach Shauna Green cuts down the net after her team won the conference title. The Flyer coach also won A-10 Women's Basketball Coach of the Year.

The University of Dayton women’s basketball team cut down the nets at UD Arena after winning the A-10 Conference Tournament on International Women's Day.

That win means the Flyers are guaranteed a spot in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Head Coach Shauna Green, who won the A-10 Women’s Coach of the Year Award last week, says one reason for the team’s success is their unique organizational style.

“There was a plan in place this off-season,” Green said. “Our Sports Psychologist, she led a leadership group where you had to apply to get in. We had seven of our upperclassmen in that leadership group—we don’t have captains, we have [that group]. Because you could be the best coach in the world, but if you don’t have leadership, you don’t have anything.”

Green and her team will take that approach to the Women’s March Madness tournament.

But on Sunday, they took a little time to hoist the conference trophy while confetti flew in the air.
