Dayton RTA Approves Route Changes, Rate Hike For Riders

On Tuesday, Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority board members approved a number of route changes and a rate increase for riders.

Under the plan, single-boarding fares will increase from $1.75 to $2, and tokens worth $1.50 will be eliminated. Several current routes will also be eliminated under the plan.

Dayton RTA officials say the changes were needed following a change in Medicare managed-care payments last year.

Since 2009, Medicare has made payments to all of Ohio’s eight transit authorities and 80 counties as part of a state revenue loss assistance program. That seven-year program ended in the last year leaving RTA with a $4.6 million sales tax revenue loss.

Several government agencies are also being affected by the program’s end.

The bus route and rate changes are expected to take effect on Feb. 18th.
