This week the Springfield Central Regional Planning Commission voted to recommend rezoning about 28 acres on 72 South Springfield Jamestown Rd for a new Kroger Marketplace, Clark County’s first.

But the plans have some residents, like Alley Laroque, concerned.

“It is going to come down to traffic and transportation. Because people who currently walk to the Kroger on South Limestone might have issues getting to a Kroger that’s further away. And traffic can be an issue too, because there are already roads on 72 that can be hard to pull out of, and so are the considering stoplights and if so what will that look like for residents who are there?”  Laroque asks.

Assistant City Manager Bryan Heck, says the city is working to address those concerns by changing the bus service.

“We haven’t exactly determined what that route looks like" says Heck, "but we're looking at already how we modify the system to be able to serve the new Kroger development and the other retail development that would occur in front of the Kroger development.”

The plans go before the city commission on September 27th, with a public hearing at 6:55 pm.
