Speedway Expansion Will Add 300 Jobs In Clark County

Enon-based Speedway announced this morning that it is expanding operations. The company is estimating that the expansion will bring over 300 new jobs to Clark County over a three year period.

Mike McDorman, president of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, indicated that Speedway's expansion plans include buying an office building in Springfield’s NextEdge Applied Research and Technology Park, while also investing $9 million in its current headquarters.

"So, it's a huge shot in the arm for the community as well as a shot in the arm for NextEdge Applied Research and Technology Park. A park that we have invested greatly in as a community and now we are going to see 300 jobs located there," he said.

Some of the positions will be white collar jobs, which McDorman is happy to see come to Clark County.

"We have done a good job of turning around manufacturing and distribution type jobs in our community, but we've struggled to get those higher paying professional service jobs to locate here and to grow here."

Speedway's parent company, the Marathon Petroleum Corporation, recently acquired Hess Retail Holdings, and that deal made Speedway the largest company-owned and -operated convenience store chain in the country by revenue and the second largest by number of stores.
