UPDATE: Shooter Reported At Dayton VA, In Police Custody

Update at 3:00pm: One person was injured in a shooting at the Dayton VA Medical Center earlier today, and a suspect is in custody, according to the Dayton Police Department. The shooting took place around noon in the basement of the the VA Clinic and the VA has been on lockdown since just after police were alerted around 12:15pm. A suspect, 59-year-old Neil Moore, a former  custodian at the VA, was picked up by security guards at Good Samaritan Hospital when he arrived there seeking psychiatric help later this afternoon. The victim is Paul Burnside, 61, who suffered a single gun shot wound in the ankle during a struggle over the weapon with Moore.  Dayton Police report that Moore and Burnside know each other but had no further information about their relationship and says there is no known motive.  The VA is closed for the remainder of the day.

Update at 1:50pm from the Associated Press:

Police in Ohio are combing through a Veterans Affairs hospital after getting reports of shots being fired at the complex. Police are not saying yet whether anyone was hurt at the VA clinic in Dayton. Authorities have blocked roads leading to the hospital complex. Employees tell media outlets that at least part of the complex was locked down around the lunch hour on Monday. Video from WDTN shows employees leaving the center while FBI agents go inside.

On its Facebook page, the clinic says scheduled appointments are on hold. It cites "a current developing situation." The hospital provides veterans with medical, mental health and nursing home care. It has beds for about 450 people.

Update at 1:13 p.m. The Dayton Daily News is reporting that a suspect is in custody at Good Samaritan Hospital.

12:55 p.m. Multiple media outlets are reporting that there is an active shooter at the VA Medical Center in Dayton. At 12:15, initial reports are that police are trying to find the shooter and working to lock down the building. There’s no immediate information about the shooter or any injuries.
