Commissioners Studying Air Force To Visit Ohio

Members of a national commission studying the U.S. Air Force to see if structural changes are needed will visit Ohio military bases this week seeking information.

The commission says members will visit Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton on Monday. They also plan to collect information at Air National Guard bases including Springfield, Rickenbacker and Mansfield-Lahm during their three-day Ohio stop.

Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor is among officials scheduled to speak at an open hearing Tuesday at the Statehouse in Columbus. Other state and local officials also were invited to submit statements.

The commission was mandated by Congress to help determine if and how Air Force structure should be changed to best fulfill its mission. The report and recommendations are due to the president and Congress on Feb. 1, 2014.
