Gem City Squares FREE Square Dance for Beginners
Gem City Squares FREE Square Dance for Beginners
New dancers are welcome to attend beginning Monday, September 13, 2021. We dance the modern western square dance style on a 50 ft by 100 ft hardwood floor at Michael Solomon Pavilion (MSP), located at 2917 Berkley St., Kettering OH 45409 (this is a tan building in the parking lot of Community Golf Course). The main entrance is on the south side of the building. MSP has chairs, restrooms, and a water fountain; and is both air-conditioned and heated.
You don't need to have a partner; we have enough members attending that someone will dance with you during lessons. The caller will teach you what is needed to execute the square dance calls, no experience is necessary.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, square dancing involves walking and following the instructions of the caller. No previous experience is necessary; new dancers will be taught what is needed to dance. Any age (including children, when accompanied by a parent or guardian) can learn to dance. (We have observed that children under the age of 8 don't usually have the attention span to learn this activity, but we know that varies from child to child.)
Square dancing involves touching hands, shoulders, and arms of other people. Right now, we have no vaccination nor masking requirements; we will have hand sanitizer available. There is a water fountain where we dance, but you may want bring your own water.
