Springfield Brewery Rises to the Top

Springfield’s downtown revitalization efforts got a big boost recently when the city’s first craft brewery, Mother Stewart’s, was named one of the top new breweries in the nation by Beer Advocate Magazine. Brewmaster Kevin Loftis says the designation will help them expand their business.

“We’re also heading out at the end of January with a distributor and so our focus will be the Dayton market for the first probably 6 to 9 to 12 months." He says, "And then maybe look eastward toward Columbus this time next year.”

Loftis says he doesn’t know if making the top brewery list will help business but he has already seen more interest from beer tourists beyond the Miami Valley.

Mother Stewart’s Brewery, Springfield Regional Medical Center, and the Hatch Artist Studios are just some of the businesses that have contributed to more than 400 million dollars investment in downtown Springfield in the past decade.
