Dayton band American Whale have just released a new single "Idiot of the Cosmos." To celebrate they'll be performing with Midwestern Mrs and Age Nowhere this Saturday, August 15, at Yellow Cab.
Previously known as The Simon Fink Band, bassist Mark Sisson says that the name change to American Whale may have contributed to this recent studio sprint.
"There was something about that name change that made it kind of come together for us. We've got a really good system down in terms of rehearsal and working through songs. Simon [Fink] is constantly revising and tweaking things with all of our input. I think we have a really amazing unit going on."
The band have been working with Tim Pritchard at Great Horned Owl Audio to record these latest singles. Drummer Ryan Mitchell says that finding the right engineer has been essential in finding their new sound.
"It's really important when you're getting an engineer to have somebody that you just gel with- somebody that's gonna create the right environment. I feel like he [Pritchard] was able to let us blossom and be little kids in the studio and also just be there to capture it all and say,'No, no reverb there. Yes, reverb over here.'"
