Adalia Powell-Boehne of KNOTTS visited the WYSO studios for the conversation with music director Juliet Fromholt ahead of the Cincinnati band's new EP, SLAP (Silly Little Art Projects Will Save The World).
"These songs are more groovy to me, and so SLAP was a fitting name, and then the acronym came to me, Silly Little Art Projects Will Save the World because, I wholeheartedly believe this, and I think they just seem silly, but they're so meaningful to the people that make them. I mean they save our whole lives, and then to the people that get to enjoy them. Grassroots anything will save the world."
For this new batch of songs, Powell-Boehne had the opportunity to work with several producers during the songwriting process, a new experience that came with some initial apprehension.
"Writing is such a personal thing. So to share that space with somebody and to feel like is this a good idea that I'm bringing up? But all of the songwriting sessions were so supportive and fun that I definitely had nothing to worry about," Powell-Boehne said. "With these producers, it did feel very comfortable. And I think we both just came from respecting similar influences and similar textures in music. So I think, we gained trust really fast."
SLAP (Silly Little Art Projects Will Save The World) will be released July 25.
