Local hip-hop artist K. Carter stopped by WYSO to discuss the For Dayton By Dayton music festival with WYSO music director Juliet Fromholt. It's a free, family friendly event happening this Saturday, June 14 at 5PM at Levitt Pavilion. Dayton. The event will features music from Illwin, Crabswithoutlegs, Kyleen Downes, The Bruins, and more.

This year marks the sixth outing of For Dayton By Dayton and a move to a new venue. K. Carter said he was pleasantly surprised when Levitt Pavilion Dayton asked to partner with him.

"They saw the outcome of my events, and they wanted to make sure that they were also being a part of something that's bringing Dayton together, celebrating Dayton, celebrating local artists and things like that. For the most part, it's just me and a couple of people that work with me putting this stuff together. So for an organization that big see lil' ol' me and want to partner with me, I was like,'okay, yeah, this is cool.'"

With the volume of artist applications growing each year, K. Carter curates a line-up of all local musicians spanning a variety of genres from hip-hop to rock to R&B. The move to Levitt Pavilion Dayton is helping him continue to showcase local music with the hip-hop scene taking the lead.

"The biggest thing for me is helping or giving other local artists a chance to be on a stage of that magnitude. Their music already speaks for themselves, but if I could just put them on that stage and get them in front of that crowd. My driving force for this is hip-hop- it's what's bringing all these people together, bringing the culture together, bringing the different genres of music together. It's hip-hop bringing that, so for us to be on that type of stage in the middle of downtown is pretty cool."
