NEWTON FALLS, Ohio - Several dozen Ohio National Guard members have returned safely to northeast Ohio after a yearlong deployment to Kuwait.
The Vindicator in Youngstown reports 39 Guard members based in Ravenna arrived in Newton Falls in two buses Saturday. They were welcomed by plenty of relatives.
The newspaper says the group did construction work at a military base and helped build missile sites, but was not involved in combat overseas.
A spokesman for the Ohio National Guard says the members who just returned should not face deployments for two to three years, though they could choose to deploy with other units.
