The Dayton City Commission voted to create the Department of Planning, Neighborhoods and Development at a commission meeting last week. The city’s Economic Development and Planning and Community Development Divisions will merge together to create the new department.
Todd Kinskey, the director of the new dpeartment, says this move will boost transparency and community engagement in the city’s development activities.
"Hopefully this will streamline some things, break down silos, not that we don’t coordinate but it’s certainly easier to coordinate when we’re all under the same umbrella,” said Kinskey.
The new department will employ over ninety people and will have a total operating budget of about $10 million.
