Threads of History: Quilts by Carolyn Mazloomi is a landmark solo exhibition by award-winning artist, historian, and curator Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi. Now an octogenarian, Mazloomi remains one of the most visionary leaders in contemporary quilting, widely recognized for her lifelong efforts to elevate African American quilt traditions. Her striking black-and-white quilts memorialize the lives and legacies of African American freedom fighters, capturing resilience, resistance, and remembrance through bold imagery and layered narrative.
Originally trained as an aerospace engineer, Mazloomi shifted her focus in the 1980s to advocate for African American quilt artists whose contributions had long been marginalized. Through her scholarship, mentorship, and the founding of the Women of Color Quilters Network, she has transformed the cultural landscape, bringing international recognition to quilting as both fine art and historical record. Her extraordinary impact has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Bess Lomax Hawes NEA National Heritage Fellowship, a United States Artists Fellowship, and an American Craft Council Honorary Fellowship. Her work is held in major collections, including the Smithsonian Institution and the American Folk Art Museum.
Opening Reception: June 12, 6-8 pm; Remarks at 6:30 pm

Revered for building a multifaceted and unifying career of work defined by fearless activism and otherworldly musicianship, the new collection continues this storytelling tradition through a dynamic cast of characters. It is a powerful journey of resilience and awakening where the pursuit of freedom meets forces that seek to control and silence. Tori shares, "In Times of Dragons is a metaphorical story about the fight for Democracy over Tyranny, reflecting the current abhorrent non accidental burning down of democracy in real time by the ‘Dictator believing Lizard Demons’ in their usurpation of America.”
The captivating In Times of Dragons album cover artwork is also revealed today, intricately created using a unique vintage process. Photographer Kasia Wozniak worked with direct paper positives using the RA-4 process, shooting everything on a large-format camera. Says Wosniak of the full Artwork "Each photograph was slowly composed, photographed, and processed. It felt magical to weave Tori’s work and vision with my own. We moved from photograph to photograph with an intuitive rhythm, aligned in every shot. The process became a kind of ritual". Speaking on the process of creating the album artwork Tori continues, "To work with Kasia and Stylist Karen Binns to bring the story and characters to life was a truly moving experience. Seeing our collaborations come to life, with them and the whole team will live with me forever".
With In Times of Dragons, Tori once again brings together the political and the personal in a work which resonates with the urgency of modern times.
