In 1996 the journalist Gail Sheehy came out to our studios to do a live interview. Her book "New Passages: Mapping Your Life Across Time" had just come out in paperback and she was doing a very brief book tour, 5 cities, 4 major metropolitan areas, and Dayton, Ohio. At the time I didn't realize what a big deal that was to have her come all the way out here to Yellow Springs.
Gail had published a book in 1976 called "Passages" and it became a mega-best-seller. It has sold over ten million copies. She was famous for her journalism as well, for magazine pieces that are now legendary. At the time I didn't know enough about her to even be nervous.Perhaps I should have been.
Gail died in August of 2020. I immediately began searching for the tape of this conversation from 25 years ago. I couldn't find it. I did locate a recording of a subsequent interview we did by telephone but I really wanted to find this one to use for this memorial program.
It was a eureka moment when I finally tracked down this recording. I hope you enjoy it.
