After several years of planning, Montgomery County Agricultural Society officials say theMontgomery County Fair has found a new home at Judge Arthur O. Fisher Park in Jefferson Township.
Greg Wallace, executive director of the Agricultural Society, which manages the fair, says officials explored many properties before deciding on Fisher Park. The fair's move has been in the works for nearly four years.
“The reason this one stood out is because it is almost at the exact center of the county,” said Wallace.
Wallace says the park’s proximity to US 35 was also a plus.
Montgomery County will donate the site to the Agricultural Society, which plans to extensively redevelop the land using funding from the sale of the historic fairgrounds in Dayton. Wallace says construction could take at least a year.
“We’re building an entirely new fairground, from the ground up," said Wallace. "Every building, every road. It’s all going to be from the ground up.”
The Agricultural Society is aiming to host next year’s fair at the new site. The 2017 fair will be held July 10-15 at the historic fairgrounds on South Main Street in Dayton.
