Kasich Delegate Hesitant To Attend GOP Convention

Governor John Kasich’s 66 delegates from Ohio are set to go the GOP convention in July, even though he suspended his campaign last month. But, some have already vowed not to attend, and others are uncertain.

Ohio State Senator and Kasich delegate Shannon Jones announced she would not be heading to next month’s convention due to her ideological differences with the party’s apparent nominee Donald Trump. And Ross McGregor, a delegate from Springfield, has said his travel schedule prevents him from attending.

Kasich delegate Nancy Nix, who is also Butler County’s treasurer, is on the fence. She says her plan for now is to go, but that could change.

“What would make me not decide to go anymore is major controversy from our nominee," said Nix. "That might push me over the edge.”

Nix was a delegate for Mitt Romney during the 2012 GOP Convention, and she says this year is much different.

“Last time it was unified and we were all working towards the same goal. This time it’s in disarray," said Nix. "I’m just a bystander watching like everyone else.”

The State Republican Party is obligated to replace delegates who decide not to attend the convention.
