The owners of the Upper Valley Mall in Springfield say they have no plans to sell or close the property right now. Patrons of the mall have been curious about its future after two of its three anchor stores closed recently.
Macy's and JCPenney both announced earlier this month that they will be permanently closing their mall locations in the spring. Sears will be the only remaining anchor store, with the Boonshoft Museum being the other major attraction.
Current mall owners Urban Retail Properties, issued a statement saying that the company plans to aggressively fill the vacancies and will remain open.
The statement says that company is optimistic that they can find new tenants and says that the openings will force the company to search for alternative retail and development to meet the needs of the Springfield market.
Urban Retail and the Springfield Chamber of Commerce say they are working on a marketing plan to help the struggling mall survive.
