Dayton Home Sales Highest Since Recession

Diana Parkhouse

There’s some positive news for the Dayton housing market- home sales are at a five year high. The numbers are the most for the month of June since before the economic downturn began in 2007.

According to a new report from the Dayton Area Board of Realtors, home sales were up 24% from the same time last year. June is typically one of the stronger months for home sales.  The prices of homes are also on the rise with an average sale price of just over 142 thousand dollars, a 10 percent increase from the same time last year.

“The economy [is] getting better and the overall positivity about the general market and the real estate market, as well as the great mortgage crisis that was so low, I mean lower than anytime in history for a long, long time,” says Nancy Farkas, the President of the Dayton Area Board of Realtors. “Now they are slowly starting to move upward and because of that, I think buyers are trying to take advantage of that while they’re still low.”

The trend mirrors the improvement in the housing market across the entire state. The number of homes sold in Ohio in June rose to 15.5 percent. It’s the 24th month in a row for gains in sales activity.
