Delta Air Lines Plan to Cut Dayton Service

Delta Air Lines plans to cut flight service from Dayton to New York beginning in July.

The move upsets Dayton-area business and government officials, who claim that it will negatively impact business in the region. The Dayton Business Journal reports that Senator Sherrod Brown is campaigning in an attempt to persuade Delta to change its mind.  In a letter to the US Department of Transportation, Brown says that the move “will hurt Dayton’s economic competitiveness and hamper business growth.”

Brown also asked the Department of Transportation to hold Delta to its word after the airline guaranteed last October not to reduce service to mid-size cities like Dayton after the US Department of Transportation allowed it to expand service to LaGuardia.

Delta officials did not immediately return calls for comment.

Officials at Dayton International Airport say that about 1,500 passengers fly to New York each month.
