A recent study shows 17% of Western Ohio's jobs are in the military and federal sectors. And half of those are aerospace jobs.

According to a new report from JobsOhio and the Dayton Development Coalition, the military and federal sectors in Western Ohio contribute to around 17% of our region’s total economy. Over half of the people employed in these industries work in aerospace product manufacturing and scientific research and development.

Joe Zeis is the Aerospace and Defense Advisor to Ohio Governor Mike Dewine. At the virtual Ohio Defense and Aerospace Forum last week, he said Ohio is a great place to continue aerospace innovation.

"We stand on the shoulders of people who laid the foundation of Ohio and the nation’s aerospace industry," said Zeis, "Led the way into the air age and the space age and now into the aerospace age and we wanna do that again.”

The report shows over a 100,000 people in Western Ohio work in jobs related to the military or the federal government.
