Twelfth Night - Free Shakespeare in the Park @ Eichelberger Amphitheater
Shakespeare in the Heights presents their inaugural production as part of the Huber Heights Parks summer arts series. This 90-minute adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic comedy, Twelfth Night is set in a fictional New York City borough, Illyria. Duke Orsino is a young, charismatic politician on the rise who seeks to win the affections of the glamorous actress, Countess Olivia. Shipwrecked twins Sebastian and Viola are separated and washed ashore to find their way in a strange city. Disguising herself as a young male bike messenger, Viola becomes involved in relaying romantic messages from Orsino to Olivia. A tangled love triangle ensues. But, who is it that Orsino finally sees as the object of his affections? Who will Olivia choose as she finds herself increasingly drawn to the courteous and talented messenger? Meanwhile, Olivia’s entourage of the mischievous Maria and the self-righteous Malvolio try to keep her house in order as her heavy-drinking uncle, Sir Toby Belch, and his wealthy hard-partying chum Sir Andrew Aguecheek live it up with late nights on the town with Feste the Fool in tow. Tempers fly, identities are mistaken, trickery abounds, and hilarity ensues.
