Davina and the Vagabonds, led by Davina Sowers, have created a stir on the national music scene with their high-energy live shows, exceptional musicianship, and Davina’s commanding stage presence. Influenced by artists like Fats Domino, Aretha Franklin, and Tom Waits, the band has captivated audiences from Vancouver to Miami and across Europe. Davina’s journey, marked by overcoming personal struggles, led to the formation of the band in 2004. Since then, they have performed in forty-five states, twelve European countries, and two Canadian provinces, earning acclaim from the Chicago Tribune, NPR, and more.

Gem Series Opener: Keigo Hirakawa Trio

The Keigo Hirakawa Trio, based in Dayton, Ohio, is led by jazz pianist Keigo Hirakawa. Known for their spontaneous and innovative performances, the trio explores original compositions and redefines jazz standards. Hirakawa, who relocated from Boston in 2010, has transformed from a student of jazz masters to an artist with a unique vision. The trio, featuring Dean Hulett on bass and Reggie Jackson on drums, is celebrated throughout the Midwest for their articulate use of harmonic and rhythmic vocabulary. They continue to captivate audiences with their dynamic and engaging live shows.
