Burning River Winds at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Springfield

Burning River Winds at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Springfield

Covenant Presbyterian Church is pleased to open the Covenant Concert Series on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 3pm with a chamber music recital of music for oboe, bassoon, and piano! We warmly welcome our guest artists for our opening concert, The Burning River Winds: Kathy deGruchy, Oboe, John deGruchy, Bassoon, and Barbara Siler, Piano.
The Burning River Winds, formed in 2006, includes core members oboist Katherine deGruchy and bassoonist John deGruchy. They perform a wide variety of chamber music repertory with piano, clarinet, flute and double reed duets. John and Katherine both graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music and so chose the ensemble’s name in honor of the city of Cleveland and the mighty Cuyahoga. Their repertory includes works by Poulenc, Francaix, Head, Jacobs, Ibert among others. The group has enjoyed successful performances in the Dayton area including performances for the Dayton Philharmonic Volunteer Organization, the Dayton Art Institute, Piqua Arts Council and the Hayner Center in Troy, Ohio and have performed at the International Double Reed Society Convention twice including the debut performance.
Pianist Barbara Siler is currently the band director at Bellbrook High School and Bellbrook Middle School. Mrs. Siler teaches AP Music Theory at BHS and has been a music teacher at Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Schools since 1988 and received her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Wright State University, where she majored in both piano and clarinet and was recognized with Magna Cum Laude status. She continued her education at Wright State and graduated with a Master of Music degree (4.0 honors), with an emphasis on clarinet and music education.
The Covenant Concert Series is a gift to the community, free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served during an informal meet-and-greet with the performers in the library following the recital. Free-will offerings are accepted at the door.
