The Ohio Players' bassist Marshall Jones on Excursions

Last Tuesday Niki Dakota was joined by Basim Blunt, a Community Voices Producer and the bass player for the Ohio Players, Marshall Jones, to talk about music, Dayton, the Ohio Players and, of course, Leroy Sugarfoot Bonner, the Ohio Players' lead singer who passed away last week.

The group was pleasantly surprised to get a call from Shakin' Dave, WYSO's very own "Monday Night Blues" host who has known and collaborated with the Ohio Players for many years. The stories just kept coming as they talked about the past and what Dayton and the Ohio Players were like back in the day. They talked about the influences and origins of the Ohio Players, and about their influences on music. With a few songs and all the stories we hear about the history of R&B, funk and Dayton from the some of the legends that made it happen.

Also, check out Marshall Jones' and Basim Blunt's "WYSO Boogie Nights" pages on Facebook.

If you would like to know more about the Ohio Players, Unsung on TVOne did an episode on the band. Here is the link to the website: http://www.tvoneonline.com/shows/unsung/video/the-ohio-players.html
