Dayton Postal Processing Center to Close by February 2013

The US Postal Service has confirmed that it will close the postal processing facility in downtown Dayton.

The Dayton Daily News reports that the processing center at 1111 East Fifth Street will be shut down by February 2013.    It is among up to 140 postal centers nationwide slated for closure by the postal service.

Declining mail volume is the reason for the closures according to Post master general Patrick Donahue.

The Dayton center employs 432 workers.   It’s operations will be transfer to the Columbus processing facility.

The Post office says that the closure of the Dayton processing center will save over $7M annually.
