Studio Session: DracMina on finding your spooky people

The vampires behind local band DracMina stopped by WYSO on a dark and stormy night to perform live on Kaleidoscope and chat with host Juliet Fromholt. Luckily, there was a pane of glass separating Juliet from the bloodthirsty gang, but don't worry, they brought blood bags with them just for this occasion.

"I dreamed to find my tribe to belong."

These lyrics from DracMina's song 'Fang Gang' perfectly encapsulate the tight knit bond the band members share.

"All of us have pretty much been raised outside of what everyone expected. So we grew up unapologetically ourselves, even though we kind of embraced how different we are. Even though we felt like something was wrong with us. But at the same time, we grew up being like, Hey, you know what? It's great to not be like everybody else."

The regional horror community is very tight knit as well, so when DracMina performs at horror conventions they feel the support and celebration.

"It's a really loyal community to be a part of and we're just, I want to say the word blessed because that type of love when you connect with these kids who are dancing up and down- they want a button, they want a sticker, they see the glitter pop. It really reminds the older people why they fell in love with rock and roll and it shows the younger people that it's okay to fall in love rock and roll."

See DracMina perform live July 4 at Gothippie Boutique in Hamilton, OH.

Born in 1998 and raised in Clark County, Ohio, Barry spent his childhood skateboarding and playing instruments. Around 2012 when dubstep and EDM hit a peak, he came upon electronic music and DJing for the first time. After years of progression and digging through the internet he came to learn the origin of it all: house and techno. Then amongst the corn fields of Ohio he encountered a thriving community of the Midwest rave scene. A journey through dancefloors and turntables has developed his keen ear for blistering techno and colorful, exciting dance music.
