Book Nook: Smalltime: A Story of My Family and the Mob by Russell Shorto

Vick Mickunas' 2021 interview with Russell Shorto

I have always admired the work of Russell Shorto so when I had the chance to interview him I did not hesitate to schedule him. I was not disappointed. Russell is a fabulous writer and he gives a great interview. And this project, "Smalltime: A Story of My Family and the Mob," was one of those amazing instances when a captivating account of mobsters who dominated the illegal gambling racket in a town in Pennsylvania, had been sitting there unexplored until the author had a chance meeting with a relative who asked him when he was planning to cover a story that was literally right under the author's nose.

This is one of my favorite non-fiction titles of the year so far.

The Book Nook on WYSO is presented by the Greene County Public Library with additional support from Washington-Centerville Public Library, Clark County Public Library, Dayton Metro Library, and Wright Memorial Public Library.
