The League of Women Voters invites everyone to a Kick-off Women's History Month. Enjoy good conversation, appetizers and drinks courtesy of the League as they begin the celebration of 100 years of women having the right to vote. This is open for everyone and is in the League of Women Voters office, 127 North Ludlow on Friday, at 6pm.
A Community Blood Drive is at the Epiphany Lutheran Church in Centerville, on Saturday, from 8am to noon. Walk-Ins are welcome.
The Pirates of Penzance, Gilbert and Sullivan’s rollicking comedy, centers on the romantic misadventures of Mabel and Frederic, who was mistakenly apprenticed to a band of “reluctant” pirates. Add to that a very model of a modern Major-General, his bevy of beautiful daughters, and a bungling bunch of Keystone Cops, and you have the delightfully wacky operetta that has amused audiences since 1879. This is at the Schuster on Saturday, 8pm and Sunday, 3pm.
Brahms, Bruch, Chadwick. As an art form, music is both inspired by, and inspirational to all the other arts. Johannes Brahms sought to capture the exuberant joy of folk dance and song in his collection of Hungarian Dances. Max Bruch was inspired to write his Scottish Fantasy after finding a collection of old Scottish tunes. American composer George Chadwick paints four distinct musical canvasses. The Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra is performance this at the Kettering Seventh Day Adventist Church, on Sunday, at 3pm.
Around the World in 80 Days. Jules Verne’s classic tale springs to life in this clever, fast-paced comedy for the whole family. Proper gentleman Phileas Fogg strikes a wager and sets off on a race that puts his fortune and life at risk. With his faithful servant at his side, he has just 80 days to circle the globe–an inconceivable feat in the year 1872!. This performance is at the Human Race Theatre, now through March 17.
