First Friday celebrates the city’s “independents.” Downtown Dayton’s collection of independently owned restaurants, boutique shops, craft breweries, galleries, and other small businesses are taking their moment in the spotlight. This is tonight from 5pm to midnight.

The Miami Valley Art Quilt Network now has Suffragists: And They Persisted!. This is an exhibit of 18 art quilts celebrating those who worked for the passage of the 19th Amendment. In addition, there are 12 quilts illustrating the 1912 book, Mother Goose for Suffragettes. The exhibits are at the Downtown Dayton Metro Library now through end of July.

Our Century: Dayton Area Collects. This brings together works from private art collections in the Dayton Area, and also some recent significant and promised gifts to the Dayton Art Institute. This is part of the museum’s ongoing centennial celebrations. This collection is at the DAI now through mid-September.

The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is offering 100 free microchips at their main shelter, 1661 Nicholas Road in Dayton. These microchips are on a first-come, first-served basis and no vouchers will be given once they run out. No appointments are needed. You can simply bring your owned animals into their shelter and have the procedure done right on the spot. If you miss out on the chance to have your pet microchipped for free, they offer this service throughout the year for a small fee.

Gotta go….
