More than two weeks after the Memorial Day tornadoes, the Red Cross is meeting individually with displaced people to assess their needs.

Officials say the goal is to make the recovery process less overwhelming for affected families.

“Caseworkers will walk through each family's individual situation and will all ask the questions,” says Red Cross spokesperson Marita Salkowski. “What is your plan to get your feet back on the ground? Do you need need money for a deposit on an apartment complex? Is there something else that we can help you with? Because usually there's something that is a stumbling block to that recovery.”

During the meetings, she says case managers will develop an individualized recovery plan, help with paperwork, and connect clients to other agencies. In some cases, direct financial support can be provided.

Displaced residents can meet with caseworkers this week at the Dayton Metro Library from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Casework can also be scheduled over the phone at 844-810-5844.
