Residents march through the Oregon District on May 30 protesting the killing of George Floyd.

From marches to vigils to die-ins, cities across the country have been holding demonstrations over the last week. Residents are protesting police brutality against Black people following the killing of George Floyd. These events will continue this weekend in communities throughout the Miami Valley.

Tonight beginning at 6 p.m., the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek community is hosting a solidarity vigil at Bellbrock Park, with speakers, a moment of silence, and a march through downtown.

On Saturday in Trotwood there will be a protest and march beginning at 11 a.m. in Madison Park. Trotwood Mayor Mary McDonald said the march would also be an opportunity for residents to register to vote and complete the census.

“I’m encouraging all Trotwood mothers, families, sororities, fraternities, churches and other peaceful organizations to come out and to join us tomorrow,” she said at a press conference on Friday.

The Xenia Gazette reports that there will be a prayer gathering in Xenia at the Greene County Courthouse at 11 a.m.

From 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a demonstration in Miami Township at Waldruhe Park.

At 1 p.m. Yellow Springs will hold a demonstration on Xenia Avenue, according to the Yellow Springs News.

There will be a sit-down protest at NorthPark Center in Huber Heights beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
