Election 2019: Miami Valley Voters To Weigh In On Several School Levies

Voters in several Miami Valley counties will have the chance to decide a number of school levies at the ballot box in the May 7 Primary.

Beavercreek officials are once again asking voters to approve a schools levy supporting operating expenses.

After a similar measure failed last fall, the district responded by announcing plans to lay off more than two dozen teachers and staff members.

District leaders say more cuts will be made if voters reject the new 6.15 mill levy on the May ballot.

Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Schools, another Greene County district, has a 7.5 mill replacement levy on the ballot.

If passed, funds will be collected based off current property values, rather than values assessed when the original levy was approved.

School officials say the measure would cost the owner of a $100,000 house an extra $211 a year.

School operating levies are also up for a vote in Montgomery County districts Oakwood, Kettering, and Valley View.

In addition, Oakwood voters will consider a bond issue, which would generate about $18 million for school facility improvements in the district.
