Book Nook: A Small Thing To Want, by Shuly Xóchitl Cawood

I did not realize that Shuly Xóchitl Cawood was a writer. I knew her dad was a writer and I had noticed her around the village of Yellow Springs on many occasions. To me the thing that stood out about her was that I would often notice she was wearing a big smile while walking arm in arm with her mom.

Then one day a few years ago I read a piece that she had written for the Yellow Springs News. It mentioned that she was an author. I had no idea! A few days later I spotted her at The Emporium and got up the nerve to introduce myself. I'm certainly glad that I did that. I mentioned that I talk to authors about their work and that I would love to read some of hers.

That was the beginning of what has become a wonderful connection with a truly amazing writer. Shuly's new story collection, "A Small Thing To Want," is simply incredible. She let me read it when it was still in manuscript form and it completely blew me away. Don't miss this book!
