Antioch Word Alumni Stories: Susan Barkan, Recipient Of The Winning Victories For Humanity Grant

In this edition of the Antioch Word, WYSO Miller Fellow Rachel Isaacson interviewed alumna Susan Barkan, class of 1978, who was one of the recipients of a Winning Victories for Humanity grant for her work in her organization “Partners for Our Children”.

The Winning Victories for Humanity grant is designed to support Antioch College alumni initiatives that impact quality of life, public good, social justice, and the environment in local, national, and international communities. Susan’s project, “Strive” was created to train those working in the child welfare system to help the visitation process be more hopeful, and less traumatic for children and their parents.

In this interview from the Antioch College 2018 Reunion, Susan explains what it’s like for parents to visit their children, what her project does to help, and how her experience at Antioch help foster her life’s passion to help children.

This interview was edited by Rachel Isaacson, current Miller Fellow at WYSO and co-host of The Antioch Word, a podcast for the Antioch College community, about Antioch College written and produced by Antioch College students working at WYSO.
