Over the years that I have been talking to authors about their work I
have had many chances to speak to writers who were just publishing their
first novels. Some of them go on to become well known with one best
seller after another. But that doesn't happen very often.
Back in 2003 I interviewed Clay McLeod Chapman for his first novel,
"Miss Corpus," which was just about to be published. I loved the book
and thought that this fellow had incredible potential. Since we did this
interview Chapman has fashioned quite a career as a novelist, actor, and
screenwriter. His body of work is most impressive, from short stories to
movies, novels to comic books, he's really done well. And he's now
fairly well known.
He sounded almost innocent during this conversation. He talked a lot
about his craft. We had a fun time that day discussing his ambitions and
his past, what little there was of it.He was only 25 years old.
